YOU CAN'T MAKE THIS SHIT UP

About a month ago, an old work colleague I’ve known for 32 years reached out because he was “concerned” about the fires near me.

Sweet, right?

Except I know this man.

So somewhere in the back of my mind, I was waiting for the real reason he suddenly needed to check on me.

And there it was:

I have to tell you something. I’ve wanted you since 1994.

Well…that escalated quickly.

I reminded him of one tiny detail:

You were married in 1994.

And another:

YOU’RE STILL MARRIED.

I made myself very clear.

I don’t date married men.

Apparently that sentence was interpreted as, Please continue.

Because then came the flirting.

The love bombing.

The X-rated messages.

The promises of a “new life.”

All the things he wanted to do with me.

All the places we could go.

And this fantasy about the life we could supposedly have together.

Sir.

We have known each other for 32 YEARS.

I know the history.

I know the reputation.

I know this isn’t some great love story that took three decades to finally find its moment.

I tried telling him off. I told him I wasn’t interested. I even told him I’d call his wife.

Eventually I thought, Fine. You want attention? Let’s see where this circus goes.

So I threw a few smart-ass comments back at him.

And then…

HIS WIFE TEXTED ME.

I know about you.”

Girl…

KNOW ABOUT WHAT?

There is no “us.”

There never WAS an “us.”

I’m thousands of miles away wondering how the hell I got cast in somebody else’s Netflix

documentary.

But underneath all the ridiculousness, something about this really made me think.

What are we willing to accept in the name of love?

How many times can someone lie, cheat, disrespect, manipulate, betray, apologize, and repeat the cycle before we stop calling it a relationship and start asking ourselves why we’re still participating in it?

And I’m not judging another woman’s reasons for staying.

People stay for a thousand reasons we may know nothing about.

But I AM talking to every woman who has forgotten what she deserves.

Love should not require detective work.

Loyalty should not require supervision.

And someone else’s chaos does not deserve a permanent address in your life.

We get one life, ladies.

Stop begging people to choose you.

Stop competing for someone’s loyalty.

Stop confusing history with happiness.

Stop confusing endurance with love.

And stop lowering your standards just because someone else refuses to raise theirs.

Protect your peace.

Raise your standards.

Know your worth.

And if some man from 1994 suddenly appears after 32 years announcing that you’ve secretly been the love of his life…

Check his marital status before you pack your bags.

Apparently I’m not too old for drama.

But I AM old enough to know I don’t have to participate in it.

BADASS BABES DON’T CHASE.

WE DON’T SETTLE.

WE RISE.
